Ready to paint the town…and all that jazz? As previously reported, Chicago will become the second longest-running Broadway show of all time on November 23. With its 7,486th bow, the Tony-winning revival will surpass Cats as it takes silver. (The Phantom of the Opera is still in first place.) The milestone performance will include appearances from the production's original Velma, Billy Flynn and Roxie: Bebe Neuwirth, James Naughton and Ann Reinking, along with Joel Grey, who played Amos.
With an iconic score by John Kander and Fred Ebb and a book by Ebb and Bob Fosse, Chicago is a musical tale of "murder, greed, corruption, violence, exploitation, adultery and treachery—all those things we hold near and dear to our hearts." The Walter Bobbie-helmed revival began performances on October 23, 1996 at the Richard Rodgers Theatre before transferring to the Shubert Theatre in February of the following year. On January 29, 2003, the show moved to its current home, the Ambassador Theatre.
The current cast of Chicago features Bianca Marroquin as Roxie Hart, Amra-Faye Wright as Velma Kelly, Christopher Fitzgerald as Billy Flynn, Carol Woods as Matron Mama Morton, Paul C. Vogt as Amos Hart and R. Lowe as Mary Sunshine.
